The Donald visits Loudoun to tout club plans
Celebrity developer Donald Trump was in Loudoun April 30 to tout his plans to turn the former Lowes Island Club into what he says will be a “gem” in his vast collection of properties.Trump, who announced in February he was buying the Sterling club, officially took ownership of the 600-acre property April 30. Among his first orders of business was to change the name to Trump National Golf Club, Washington, D.C.
“We will take this club to a number of levels higher than what it is now,” Trump told a group of reporters in the clubhouse at his newest property.
“There really is no course that compares to what we will be doing here,” he added. He went as far to say his club will be more sought after than Bethesda's Congressional Country Club, which hosts Tiger Woods' AT&T National golf tournament each summer.
Though terms of the purchase were not disclosed, Trump did say he paid “cash” for the club, and was most intrigued by its location on the Potomac River. He also said the property became available only because the recession was forcing former owner Chevy Chase Bank to sell.
“This is a great time to buy,” Trump announced, before plugging his new book “Think Like a Champion.”
His plans for Trump National, which will be overseen by his son Eric Trump, include expanding the clubhouse by 80,000 square feet, adding indoor tennis courts and lengthening its two golf courses. Famed golf course designer Tom Fazio has been retained to work on the courses. It currently costs $75,000 to join the club, but that price is expected to soar in the coming years.
“The excitement here goes beyond the membership,” said Supervisor Susan Klimek Buckley (D-Sugarland Run), whose district includes Trump National. She explained she heard from a Realtor who said multiple offers were recently made on a house near the club, after word of Trump's purchase began to spread.
Several weeks ago, Buckley and Board of Supervisors Chairman Scott York (I-at large) had lunch with Trump to discuss his plans.
“He's a very personable individual,” York said, who called Trump's presence in Loudoun “exciting.”
“This adds to what has been a wonderful month,” York said. In April, Raytheon announced it was leasing 600,000 square feet of office space in Ashburn.
York said it has yet to be determined if Trump would need approval from the county to move forward with any of his renovation plans. Work is expected to get under way later this year.

Hmmmm can anyone say going down in flames with the rest of Trump's ventures. Doesn't Loudoun already have a couple of golf courses. Does it really need another one.... and in Sterling.

Did you even bother to read the article, Sir? The golf course was already built. Trump bought it from Chevy Chase Bank. He's only making improvements to the property. Next time, when you choose to open your mouth, do us all a favor and just insert your foot.
