Community shred

Sterling-based ProShred Security will shed your confidential documents for free March 28 at the Brambleton Town Center. The event will take place 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the parking lot of the Chevy Chase Bank. Items not accepted include binders, plastic report covers, hanging file folders, cardboard, plastic bags, CDs and DVDs, floppy disks, hard drives and X-ray film.

MS Society benefit

Lola Cookies and Treats in downtown Leesburg is donating a portion of all its sales in March to the Multiple Sclerosis Society. The shop is at 109 S. King St. Orders are also taken at lolacookies.com.

Tax seminar

Robert Wertz Jr., Loudoun's commissioner of the revenue, will hold a seminar on taxes March 23 at the Mount Zion Baptist Church in the village of St. Louis, 35285 Snake Hill Road. Seniors, according to St. Louis resident Albert Bland, are especially encouraged to attend. The event is free and begins at 7 p.m. St. Louis is northwest of Middleburg.

Tax talk

The Rotary Club of Sterling is opening its weekly meetings this spring to members of the public in order to share Rotarians’ expertise with area businesses.

At the March 23 meeting, Earl Yancey, of Accounting Associates of Virginia, will discuss saving on taxes and minimizing losses, readjusting your budget, and using taxes as an ally to keep more of what you make.

The presentation will start at 12:30 p.m. at Logan’s Roadhouse, 46321 McClellan Way, Sterling.

Zoo turns 10

The Leesburg Animal Park turns 10 this year. Its opening day is March 21. The zoo is expecting two new zebra babies this year. It's at 19270 James Monroe Highway. Call 703-433-0001 for details.

Land trust accredited

The Land Trust of Virginia has recently been awarded fully accredited status by the Land Trust Accreditation Commission, an independent program of the national Land Trust Alliance.

Based in Fauquier County, the Land Trust of Virginia helps citizens place conservation easements on their properties in order to protect open space and natural and historic resources.

The trust stewards nearly 100 conservation easements on more than 9,000 acres of private land in Loudoun, Fauquier, Clarke, Rappahannock, Madison and Greene counties.

New data center approved

Loudoun's Board of Supervisors approved plans March 3 for construction of a data center in Ashburn. A company called Equinix will build the facility, which will be on Filigree Court in the Beaumeade Corporate Park. Based in Northern California, Equinix operates 42 data centers across the world. These are climate-controlled facilities that house computer systems that store digital data.
