Biz Bites: Volkswagen in Loudoun, meetings on tourism money
Volkswagen signs leaseAt last, Loudoun lands Volkswagen – albeit not its headquarters.
Volkswagen officials recently signed a lease for a 6,000-square-foot space at the Ashburn Technology Park near Washington Dulles International Airport.
The space will house a technical training facility and be used to store inventory and “prototype work,” according to company spokeswoman Jill Bratina.
In 2008, Volkswagen moved its U.S. headquarters from Michigan to Herndon, upsetting county officials at the time who desired that the popular brand relocate to Loudoun instead.
The Ashburn Technology Park is an 84-acre business campus near Waxpool Road and the Dulles Greenway. It's owned by St. John Properties of Frederick, Md.
Tourism dollars available
Meetings will be held this month for businesses in need of money to market events that will bring visitors into Loudoun.
The Loudoun Convention & Visitors Association will host the meetings, which will focus on the organization's Tourism Marketing Leverage Program.
The program, which used to be called the Cooperative Marketing Fund, is designed to extend the reach of Loudoun’s tourism industry, attract visitors and increase visitor spending through partnerships and leveraged funds.
Businesses with events, projects and promotions taking place in Loudoun between July 1, 2009, and June 30, 2010, can apply for assistance through the program.
The meetings will be March 24 at 5:30 p.m. and March 30 at 2:30 p.m., both at the LCVA offices at Leesburg's Market Station, 112-G South St. S.E.
