Biz Bites: Moving presidents, celebrating small businesses

Presidential clients

A Sterling-based moving company is tooting its own horn after it recently helped two former presidents – and political rivals -- relocate.

JK Moving & Storage Inc. said in February that it assisted in the move of former President George and Laura Bush to their new home in Dallas.

The company also said it transferred items from the home (it didn't say which home) of former President Bill Clinton and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton into storage. Included in the items, the company said, was the former president's desk, which followed him from Little Rock, Ark., to the Oval Office.

JK Moving, the region's largest privately owned mover, has been in business for 30 years. During that time, the company has moved a slew of senators, congressman, cabinet members and several other presidential administrations without, the company said in a statement, “a political preference.”

A day for small business

The Loudoun Small Business Development Center will sponsor a day of events March 10 to celebrate Loudoun's vast small-business community.

The event, billed as “Celebrate Loudoun,” will feature seminars, trade show exhibits, a silent auction and an evening mixer. It will be held at George Washington University's Ashburn campus.

The day will run from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Topics to be discussed include Facebook uses, e-commerce on a budget, low-cost marketing, business branding, exporting and more.

The event costs $20 if registered and $30 at the door. To register and to learn more about the event, visit www.loudounsbdc.org and click on Celebrate Loudoun.
