Great Country, Great Festival
Great Country Farms Fall Festival open: The month-long Fall Harvest Festival is in full swing at Great Country Farms 9 a.m.-5 p.m. through Nov. 2. The farm features hayrides to the U-Pick pumpkin patch. There will be Oinkintucky Derby Pig Races Saturdays and Sundays at noon, 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. Because this is an election year, the races have taken a distinctly "pig-olitical" view.P-Rex, the Pumpkin Munchin' Dinosaur, roars into action at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., and everyone needs to do a little Dino Flossing.
New characters this year include the Pumpkin Princess who graces the farm on weekends and shares secrets from the pumpkin patch, and the Rooster Wrangler and his five-foot rodeo rooster.
The farm play area includes three 60-foot slides; pedal carts; farm animals; five permanent mazes; rope swings; a corn bin with more than 1,000 pounds of corn; and a tot play area with pony tire swings and a new sandbox.
The new imagination village is jogging-stroller friendly.
The Roosteraunt will be serving up the farm's famous barbecue and kettle corn; it is open Fridays-Sundays, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Fall Harvest special treats include Grandma Z's apple dumplings and freshly baked cookies.
Admission is $6 per person weekdays (except Columbus Day Monday); $8 per person on weekends and Columbus Monday. Children younger than 2 are admitted free. U-Pick pumpkins are 59 cents a pound.
