Varsity rewind: May 14 games

Baseball

Dominion 4, Heritage 2: Trey Reed took the tough loss, allowing two earned runs in six innings of work, striking out six while walking one. He helped his own cause at the plate with two hits, a walk and two of Heritage's five stolen bases.


Softball

Park View 4, Briar Woods 3: The regular season closed for both squads as the Patriots' Laura Heironimus tossed a five-hit, seven-strikeout complete game, holding off a two-run Falcon rally in the final inning. Brittany Griffin tagged a two-run homer for the Patriots, while the Falcons were led by Kate Fowler's two hits.

Loudoun County 19, Freedom 2 (6 inn.): The Raiders exploded for 21 hits, including Rochelle Latka's inside-the-park home run, and stole five bases in the onslaught. Lindsey Holtz had three of those hits, supporting her complete game effort in the circle. Hope Flanagan went 5 for 5, Rachel Wigfield was 4 for 5 with three RBIs, and Kristen Gorman and Holly Norris collected two hits apiece.


Boys' soccer

Dominion 2, Heritage 2: The score was 0-0 after the first half, 1-1 after the second half and 2-2 after the first overtime. Neither team scored in the second overtime, resulting in the draw. Ivan Callejas and Amandu Bangra scored for the Pride, while Kevin Tiblin and Tommy Kowalick tallied for the Titans.

Loudoun Valley 2, Culpeper 1: The Vikings ended the regular season 3-4 in the Cedar Run District, 7-9 overall, with a road win over the Blue Devils. Senior Jordan Smith took a through pass from Clay Cope and sent a low drive past the Culpeper keeper with 10 seconds remaining for the deciding tally. Luke Marzaloes had Valley's other goal. Nathan Bergel stopped 13 Blue Devil shots for the win.

Liberty District semifinal
Stone Bridge 4, Langley 0: The Bulldogs advance to the district final for the third time in four seasons with their win versus the Saxons. Goalkeeper Matt Miscione earned his eighth shutout on the year, watching goals from Eric Skogerboe, Ronnie Shaban, Nick Giffen and Chris Kravatz. Caleb Robertson was credited with two assists. Stone Bridge will face Thomas Jefferson for the district tournament title.


Boys' lacrosse

Dulles District semifinal
Heritage 9, Dominion 6:
The Pride advance to the final of the Dulles District tournament with their win against the Titans at George Mason High School in Falls Church. Five Heritage players found the net, led by Russell East's three and two each from Dean Stambules and Bryan McCarthy, supported by Tyler Barton's 15 saves in goal. Zack Glasscock had a game-high four goals for Dominion.


Girls' Lacrosse

Northern Region first round
Stone Bridge 12, Lake Braddock 5: Lauren Giusti and Meghan DeMartino each contributed four goals and two assists and Amy Rollins threw in three goals of her own in support of Michelle Leon's seven-save effort in net.
