Briefs: Library survey, Wolf, volunteer awards, heard saying

It's the library callingThe Loudoun County Public Library will be conducting a telephone survey of county residents throughout May. Four hundred households, selected at random, will be asked to participate.
The information gathered will influence decisions made during the library system's strategic planning process. The strategic plan is a tool that guides public libraries to provide better programs and services in the future.

Donna Crowley, a representative for U.S. Rep. Frank Wolf (R-10th), will be at the following locations May 8 to address constituents' questions and concerns with respect to federal matters:

Volunteerism awarded
The Board of Supervisors recognized May 6 the individuals, groups and projects given Loudoun's Outstanding Volunteer Awards for 2008 by the Loudoun Volunteer Services board of directors. The honorees were:
Volunteer of the year: Tamar Datan Johnston (Economic Development Commission)
Adult volunteer: Kenny Thayer (LINK food pantry)
Older adult: Anne Moore (Falcons Landing retirement community)
Youth: Kellie Schlosser (Broad Run High School senior)

Town hall meeting
Gov. Tim Kaine (D) will be holding a town hall meeting in Woodbridge May 13 to discuss the General Assembly's upcoming special session on transportation funding. The meeting will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Dr. A.J. Ferlazzo Building, 15941 Donald Curtis Drive.
Kaine is also going to host a similar meeting in Loudoun. A date, location and time will be announced next week.
The one day special session will take place on June 23.
Heard saying ...
“Here's TRIP II asking to raise their toll rates. ... Now we're finding out they can afford to give up their tolls for a day.”
