Hamilton News: Lowry's Crab Shack is back

Water line

Mayor Ray Whitbey said the dirt will start to move May 8 for construction of the water line from the new elementary school on the Harmony Intermediate campus to Well 14. Getting that project under way, Whitbey said, has taken most of his effort and attention for the second year of his four-year term. The water should be flowing, both to the new school and to the town, by late fall.

Fish story

Donald and Lesley Lowry are back in the fresh fish business at Lowry's Crab Shack at the end of town.

Since they are a "restaurant, dine in or carry-out" by county zoning rules, they can sell individual portions of sushi-quality fish, Lesley said. She is getting in three or more shipments a week of tuna, grouper, sole, flounder, catfish, tilapia, salmon and swordfish.

The Crab Shack takes special orders, and soft shell crab season is just around the corner.

The Lowrys also will be opening the Hamilton General Store, in partnership with partnership Kenneth Wine, at 52A W. Colonial Highway across the street from the post office, in the yellow frame building that formerly housed an antique shop. Grand opening is set for May 19.

The General Store will share the building with Sweet Delights, which supplies desserts for the Crab Shack. They promise strawberry shortcake and chocolate raspberry brownies this week, and French bread bowls for the cream of crab soup just in time for Mother's Day.
