Concerts, concerts and more concerts – and a local mystery

Live on the Lawn: If you read this early enough, you can catch tonight’s edition of Live on the Lawn, Lansdowne Town Center’s summer concert series. It happens every Wednesday evening 6-8 p.m. and tonight brings out the Chris Polk Band. Grab your picnic dinner, a blanket or lawn chairs and set up camp on the Village Green. The town center is located just off Route 7 and Belmont Ridge Road, behind the fountains that face Route 7.
Brambleton: The community of Brambleton hosts a free concert series on Thursday evenings near the Brambleton town center. Tomorrow night’s features the soft rock sounds of Doug Segree 7-9 p.m. For more information, call 703-542-2925 or visit www.brambleton.com.
Broadlands: Broadlands Live! concert series will be cranking it up this Friday night with the Backstreet Betties 5:30-6:30 p.m., and Gonzo’s Nose from 7-9:30 p.m. It’s also '80s dress-up night, so be sure to come decked out. Granted, it may be a too hot and humid for leggings or parachute pants, but you can’t go wrong in a Van Halen or Twisted Sister T-shirt. The concert takes place at Hillside Park, 42935 Waxpool Road, in Broadlands. Several local vendors will be on hand selling soda, water and tasty food, such as Anothai Restaurant, Domino’s Pizza and Java Jones ice cream café. If you’re 21 or older, you may bring your own beer – not in glass containers – and consume it in the designated area. Admission is free. For more information, visit www.broadlandslive.com.
Lansdowne: Also on Friday, Lansdowne Resort’s Jazz on the Potomac series will feature Cathy Ponton King 6-10:30 p.m. Lansdowne’s crack culinary team prepares sumptuous foods and beverages, while you sit back and relax and enjoy the free concert. Summer MusicFest: The Charlie Daniels Band headlines the Loudoun Summer MusicFest Sunday night on the grounds of Ashburn’s Belmont Country Club. The gates open at 5 p.m., the opening act takes the stage at 6 p.m. and Charlie Daniels goes on around 7:30 p.m. General admission tickets are $15 and Gold Circle seats – which allow you to enter the venue a little earlier and sit a little closer to the stage – are $35. Food and beverages are sold at the concert and no food or beverages may be brought in, as all proceeds are donated to local Loudoun charities. For more information, visit www.liveatbelmont.com.
Local mystery: There’s still time to sign up for the Loudoun County Public Library’s summer reading program, “M Is for Mystery.” Children from birth to age 11 can record either the number of books, magazines or books on CD or the number of hours spent reading. After accumulating 50 books or 25 hours, they’ll receive a certificate and be entered in a grand prize drawing. Those ages 12 to 18 need to complete 36 hours in order to receive a prize book and be entered into the drawing. Adults may write reviews for books they’ve read and be entered into a drawing.
