Sheehan and Sloyan travels, get-well wishes and birthday celebrations
Betty Shiflett
We are always happy to hear reports of recent visits and the delight of neighbors as they share before-unseen (by them) "treasures" in these great United States.
Sheehan travels: Rita Sheehan visited with friends in Minnesota. She said the yards and farms there are beautiful, the people hardworking and dedicated. Some historic sites visited were the Sinclair Lewis home, Judy Garland's home, the lighthouse in Duluth, and the statehouse which was built with white granite brought in from Georgia. There is a church in St. Paul that is identical to one in Rome. The largest mall in the world (Mall of America) is in Bloomington -- 538 stores. Rita said there is a fair in the center, with a roller coaster, ferris wheel and all. Amazing. The highlight of the trip was being on the Mississippi River on the Fourth of July. Thanks for the report. We're happy that Rita could go.
Sloyan travels: We're also happy that the Sloyans, children and grandchildren could once again spend time at OBX (Outer Banks), N.C. Pat and Phyllis Sloyan, Conor, Anna and Danny McLaughlin, John, Josie and Jennie Sloyan enjoyed so much the beach, biking, swimming and generally having a relaxing get-away. We love that place.
Well wishes: Get-well wishes to neighbor Mike Thomson. He's had a rough week or so. You and Liz are in our thoughts and prayers. It was good to hear that Murray Rose is home and on the mend from his recent hospitalization and extended care.
Birthday greetings Friday to Steve Godeke and the next day to Connie Haines. We wish you all the best birthdays ever.
Thought for the Day: "Diets are for people who are thick and tired of it."
