Swim night, essay winners, special awards, living history, Swedenburg's guests

Swim night: The Middleburg Community Center is hosting a swim night and DJ on Aug. 22, 6-8 p.m. There will be pizza and pool games with no rain date.
Essay winners: Three Middleburg Elementary students were chosen as Keep Loudoun Beautiful essay winners. First-grader Mitchell Longerbeam, second-grader Enmanuel Ibarra-Mendoza and third-grader Noah Mamula were chosen as school winners.
Longerbeam and Mamula's essays were also chosen as two of the top 10 essay winners in the county. The essays detail ways to keep Loudoun beautiful and help the environment.
More winners: Some of the special awards presented to the 2008 graduation class at Middleburg Elementary were Alexius Simms who received the DAR Outstanding Citizenship Award. The Outstanding Art Award was presented to Kat Sandberg. Eve Gallegos received the Outstanding Music Award.
Cavaliers, Courage and Coffee: This year's Cavaliers, Courage and Coffee program, performed by the Gray Ghost Interpretive Group of the Mosby Heritage Area Association, will be presented on Aug. 16 at Aldie Mill. The program will focus on Little River Turnpike and the residents living in Aldie during the Civil War. All presentations begin at 7:30 p.m. The cost is $5 for adults and $2 for students. At Swedenburg: Ellen Crosby will be at Swedenburg Winery on Aug. 17, signing the third book in the series, "The Bordeaux Betrayal" from noon to 5 p.m. The book has already made several Top 10 reading lists for the summer.
Boo Snider will also be back at the Winery on Aug. 31 to sing your favorite songs and play his acoustic guitar while you enjoy the scenery and your favorite vino.
