Spartans end Patriots run at perfect tennis season

Broad Run split six singles matches and won two of three doubles matches to claim a 5-4 victory over previously undefeated Park View in girls’ tennis Tuesday night.

The loss was the first of the season for the Patriots, who had already clinched their first district tennis title in school history. The Spartans won the 2006 Dulles title with an undefeated regular season mark.

Alex Angillilo, Alex Creech and Carrie Sartor won singles matches for Broad Run. The Spartans also collected victories from the teams of Shannon Northcutt and Angillilo, and Rei Prasad and Creech in doubles.

Park View (15-1) lost Anastasia Heimann, a German exchange student who played No. 5 singles and No. 3 doubles, to a broken hand.

Krista McManus, Megan Brown and Sarah Groves won in singles for the Patriots. McManus and Brown also won in doubles, improving to 16-0 this season.

The two teams will square off again Thursday afternoon at Park View in the semifinals of the Dulles District girls’ tennis tournament.
