Falcon trio set for college football
Three Briar Woods High School seniors who helped the Falcons qualify for the 2007 Virginia Division 3 playoffs in the school's second varsity season have finalized plans to play in college.Quarterback Alex Munro, who passed for more than 2,000 yards and 26 touchdowns in two varsity seasons, will play at Campbell University, a Division I program in Buies Creek, N.C.
Falcons coach Charlie Pierce says Munro will have a chance to compete for the starting quarterback spot at the school, which is fielding its first football team in 50 years.
Munro also considered Glenville State, North Greenville College and Grambling State.
Devin Barber has accepted a preferred walk-on at Division II Virginia State University in Petersburg.
Barber, an electrifying, all-purpose player at Briar Woods, has the ability to play offense, defense or special teams for the Trojans. He also looked at Elizabeth City State, Southwest Baptist and Bridgewater.
All-State center John Maghamez will play at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville next year as a preferred walk-on.
Maghamez selected the Cavaliers over Davidson, Columbia and a walk-on offer from Maryland.
