Briefs: Foreclosures, Wolf, tax relief, an apology
Foreclosure helpHomeowners needing advice to avoid foreclosure can now call Loudoun's Department of Family Services. Staff members there recently were trained in loss mitigation counseling.
Officials recommend, however, that homeowners first call their mortgage company or a nationwide foreclosure hot line at 888-995-HOPE.
If neither of these options are helpful, officials said homeowners should then call Family Services at 703-777-0353 for counseling or other assistance.
Wolf representative
Donna Crowley, representative for U.S. Rep. Frank Wolf (R-10th), will visit the following areas April 3:
Round Hill town office, 9:30-10:30 a.m.
Ashburn post office, 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
Sterling post office, 1-2 p.m.
Potomac Falls post office, 3-4 p.m.
Crowley will be available to talk with constituents who need assistance or have problems of a federal nature.
Tax relief
Loudoun County Commissioner of the Revenue Robert Wertz Jr. will be holding workshops at the following locations and times to explain the county’s tax relief program for the elderly and disabled. The program awarded $5 million in real estate tax relief in 2007.
Leesburg: April 9, 6:30-8 p.m., Loudoun Government Center
Sterling: April 10, 10-11:30 a.m., Cascades Library
Purcellville: April 14, 3-4:30 p.m., Purcellville Town Hall

Coffee talk
Supervisor Andrea McGimsey (D-Potomac) is inviting residents to a Starbucks in CountrySide April 5 to talk with her about county issues and concerns.
The Starbucks is at 3 Pidgeon Hill Drive. McGimsey will be there between 10 a.m. and noon.
Grantor's tax
Gary Clemens, Loudoun's Clerk of the Circuit Court, is urging recent home sellers to visit the court's Web site to learn how to retrieve money levied by the Northern Virginia Transportation Authority. The court was collecting a grantor's tax imposed on home sellers the first two months of this year, but the state Supreme Court ruled that NVTA had no authority to levy the tax.
By April 4, he said, a listing will be posted online of the Loudoun deed transactions where the NVTA grantor taxes were paid. Visit www.loudoun.gov/clerk .
