Ridgewater Park withdrawn by developer

At the Board of Supervisors meeting Dec. 18, developer Hobie Mitchel withdrew his application for the Ridgewater Park development proposed for south of Leesburg.

The development would have added nearly 1,000 homes and 500,000 square feet of office space on 338 acres near Leesburg Executive Airport.

The controversial development, which changed in size, location and scope during its lengthy approval process, drew opposition from slow-growth advocates and environmentalists.

During a public hearing on Dec. 11, 26 of the 27 people who spoke on Ridgewater Park had said they opposed the project.
