Catoctin Watershed Funds
Farmers and landowners in the Catoctin watershed who want to help out water quality and improve their animals' health are still eligible for cost share funds for stream fencing, alternative water sources, and cover crops from the Loudoun Soil and Water Conservation District. These funds can cover up to %75 of the costs of installing fencing to keep livestock out of Catoctin Creek, its tributaries, wetlands, and ponds within the watershed. Funding is also available to help pay for water troughs to water livestock no longer able to obtain water from streams and creeks.
These measures can improve animal health by providing livestock with a clean source of drinking water, and reduce the bacteria load in waters of the Catoctin watershed by keeping animal waste out of streams.
If you don't have horses, cattle or other livestock, but DO have a septic system, the Loudoun County Health Department has funds available to help fix malfunctioning septic systems that may be letting bacteria enter the Catoctin as well.
