Call of Duty 4 New MP Maps

COD 4 New Multiplayer Maps

I've had time to evaluate the new multiplayer maps for COD 4 and I likey. I don't like paying for downloadable content but I didn't mind forking out $10 for 4 new maps. Probably because I knew how much they were going to cost and if I wanted to enjoy them now I'd have to part with the dough. Overall they are a fine addition to the already awesome maps that shipped with the game. Like the multiplayer maps that shipped with the game, the new maps resemble locations in the single player campaign. Personally I prefer maps that are based off of single player missions. They seem like an extension of the single player campaign rather than a bunch of cool locations thrown together.

The maps are as follows.

Chinatown - I suck at this map. Their are too many angles to cover and I find myself dying a lot. Chinatown is based off of Carentan, a multiplayer map from Call of Duty 2. I didn't play multiplayer in COD 2 so I didn't have any prior knowledge of the map but I don't think that it would have helped me. The tactic I prefer to use on Chinatown is running around like a mad man and shooting at anything that moves. Surprisingly it works. Running into a room or up stairs, usually it's the person who pulls the trigger first who walks away. Adversely, if someone is hanging out in a room, with their weapon pointed at the door or window, ready to shoot, then the tactic becomes useless. At which time I go back to that location and I am promptly killed again by the same poop face.

Broadcast - I kind of suck on this map too but I still like it a lot. Broadcast is taken from the level, Charlie Don't Surf, and lets you relive the raid on the TV studio. Like Chinatown, there are so many directions you can be shot from that you are constantly looking back then getting shot in the face when you turn back around. I'm partial to submachine guns on this map. Running through all of the corridors and up stairwells offer good stopping power in close encounters and enough range to take out bad guys from across the news room.

Creek - By far my favorite of the 4 new maps. This map has it all, from close combat in houses and caves to sniping from attics and along the ridge overlooking the creek. One of my favorite past times is to run up the ramps leading from the base of the creek to the cliffs and kill all the too-cool-for-school snipers. It usually ends with me getting blown away in a blaze o' glory, Custer style, but it's worth it. Other than running around the brush, dealing out death, the map itself is beautiful. I'm not proud of it but I've been killed checking out the scenery.

Killhouse - This map is based off of the training level in the single player campaign. Killhouse offers close combat, ideal for knife on knife battles, and sniping positions at either end and a tower in the middle. It is a nice tight level to run around. There will be a lot of harsh words thrown around when you are in a gun fight with  someone and some idiot runs up and shoots your from the side. Even though this is a small map, grenades don't aren't that effective. There are a lot of walls and ways to avoid grenades that land at your feet. The only problem with this map, just like Shipment, is that you'll probably never play it online, because it's so small.

It shows that Infinity Ward took the time to create some good additions to an already great game. I'll see you out there on the killing fields. I'll be the one sprinting around like a chicken with it's head cut off.

That's enough ballyhoo.
