Thompson offered by UVA

Stone Bridge High School junior defensive end Zach Thompson has been offered a scholarship to play football for the University of Virginia beginning in 2009.

Virginia coach Al Groh recently visited Stone Bridge to watch a practice during the Bulldogs’ state-title run. The Cavaliers (9-3) are enjoying one of their best seasons in recent memory. Virginia plays Texas Tech Jan. 1 in the Gator Bowl.

Zach Thompson (6-5, 240) is coming off a fantastic junior campaign capped off by the Bulldogs winning the Division 5 championship. Thompson's twin brother, Patrick is Stone Bridge's starting quarterback, and obviously, their dad is Bulldog coach Mickey Thompson.

Zach is part of a deep, talented Bulldog junior class that will land several players on the college football landscape. Junior offensive lineman David Wang (6-1, 297) has already committed to Virginia Tech.

David will join his older brother Ed at Virginia Tech. Ed Wang is a starting sophomore offensive tackle for the Hokies. Bulldog senior safety Jeron Gouveia is also committed to Virginia Tech.

The Hokies (11-2) captured their second ACC championship in four years in 2007 and will play Kansas Jan. 3 in the Orange Bowl.
