Not a surprise that housing prices are slumping

It is not a surprise to me that housing sales are at a four year low, according to a recent media report in The Washington Post.

While housing prices are the lowest that they have been in a long time, new homeowners are still paying a fortune for what is literally a sliver of a home. Who would want to buy a single-family home on a smaller than postage stamp lot or a townhouse that is attached to six or more other homes like an apartment building?

We had a four-bedroom home in New York State on an acre of land and paid $78,000 for a mortgage. The home itself was almost 2,000-square-feet along with a separate garage building.

A property like that would go for $1 million down here. The only reason why we left is that the New York job market stunk.

Developers in this area really need to think about building the best homes possible for families and not about new and more creative ways to cram as many people in as small of an area as possible. It is scary to see how many dwelling units are being built in places like Lansdowne.

Homes are either too big or small. What ever happened to the old Cape Cod, ranch or colonial-style homes. I guess such places do not make as much money for developers.

We need the old-style homes back. Otherwise, there will too many homes wanted by too few.
