Making it through break
If you are like me and home from work this week, here are some ideas to get you through the Spring Break with the kids.
I had to get a crash course on the area hot spots for children after my son Jack decided that he wanted to stay at home instead of take part in a day care camp for the week. Since we were not taking a vacation in sunny Florida this year, I had to scramble.
After watching the bad weather being reported in places like Georgia and Tennesee recently, I'm glad we decided to stay home this year. We're saving up for next year, anyways.
Here are some area alternatives for kids rather than heading further Soutn.
1) Take your child to the library. The Loudoun County Public Library System has a ton of activities going on this week. Information can be found at www.lcpl.lib.va.org. A movie at the library is cheaper than going to a theater.
2) Visit the playground. This is always a favorite of mine, especially the playground at the Dulles Town Center. It is too bad it is not a little bit warmer. The Claude Moore Recreation Center is also a neat place to hang out if you are longing for pool time or exercise equipment.
3) McDonald's, Burger King, Chuck E. Cheese in Sterling: Admit it, you'll take your kids to these places when you have too. I see too many families at the restaurant playgrounds.
4) Hit the parks and trails. There are plenty of trails, including the W&OD. Just dress warm. Exercising and walking with family keeps me from thinking how my favorite basketball team Syracuse University is not in the NCAAs this year. I was born in New York and believe me, I feel Virginia Tech's pain.
I hope I helped. If you have any other ideas, please leave comment. Enjoy the break. Easter Sunday will be here before you know it and so will the final school push to June. !
