Leave Loudoun alone in '08
Lets hope the new Loudoun County Board of Supervisors ensures that the area does not begin to look a lot like Fairfax in 2008.
Yes, I sort of coined a phrase from a famous Christmas song, but wouldn't this idea be a great New Year's resolution for incoming board members? At least some of the supervisors would keep a campaign promise if they did.
It is really starting to concern me that the outskirts of Leesburg are in the midst of being heavily developed. We do not need the extra dwellings, even though thousands upon thousands have been approved.
The sprawl is moving out west and it will be challenging for the new board to erect the approval firewalls to keep it away. Something has to be done. Residents are feeling the pinch in all aspects of Loudoun life. Schools are crowded. Roads are congested. Services are being stunted.
By the way, where is the demand for all these new homes? Isn't the real estate market tanking? A quick read of any of the area newspapers will show you that townhouses in Ashburn have dropped from about the high $400,000s in 2006 to the high to mid $200,000s today. We do not need the extra homes, townhouses and apartments.
The county does not have the resources to deal with what is around now. To see all the cranes, bridge work and newly open spaces for buildings is a disturbing site for me. I do not ever want to learn the rationale developers, some supervisors and sprawl supporters have behind it.
