Oscar Blah!
Oscar Blah
Many in the entertainment industry would have us blame the writer’s strike for the lack of intense interest in this year’s Oscars.
If you are anything like me (let’s pray you are not, for many reasons) then you did not even realize the Oscars were this Sunday! OMG – let’s scramble for that printable sheet of nominees so we can select our own Oscar worthy picks.
Yeah, me neither. Who cares?
Again, they want us to believe it is the writer’s strike fault. They are the reason it might be a flop this year. Give me a break. I am sure on some level that yes, it will have an effect on it this year, but not a total eclipse. [I really like how I incorporated “eclipse” in there, since we had one two nights ago]. I digress.
The real reason we mere mortals are not completely and 100% infatuated with Hollywood and the Oscars this year is…. [drum roll please…] because we are jaded by the whole Hollywood scene.
We are tired of hearing about poor little rich girls getting stalked by the paparazzi or parading around not wearing underwear or starring in their very own “personal” videos!
We are annoyed because you are in and out of rehab!
We are exasperated because we are strapped for cash and you make 20 million dollars a picture!
We are chafed because going to the movies costs $30-$50 dollars for two (on a date) and more for a larger family going to see a Disney film.
We don’t care what designer gowns and free/borrowed jewels you’ll be wearing on the Red Carpet!
We think it is retarded that you get an Oscar Swag bag worth 40 thousand dollars for items we know you’ll never use (and just give to your assistants – by the way, do you need a new assistant?)
But overall, we are unhappy because Hollywood is not that shining beacon it once used to be. No one is perfect, but for many years Hollywood had the persona of perfection and what we should all aspire to be like. One of my favorite movies is 1958’s Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, based on the Tennessee William’s play, staring Elizabeth Taylor and Paul Newman.
That was good Hollywood! You don’t see that in today’s movies. Give me the Classic’s baby, give me the Classics! BRING BACK THE MUSICALS!
In the event you are a huge Oscar fan and you’ve seen every movie this year, then great; just don’t call me and invite to your Oscar party.
If you are as undecided about the Oscars as you are about Ms. Clinton and Mr. Obama; then you have 2 Days 1 Hour 1 Minute and 13 seconds to figure it out.

Ms. Kelly is a hopeless romantic that enjoys the classic movies with Judy Garland, Gene Kelly, Van Johnson, Cary Grant, and Gregory Peck. In fact she thinks Gene Kelly is the original “McDreamy.” She is the crazy cat lady, without the cats. One of her life goals is to make YOU smile.
