Editorial page a home run

Upcoming letters to the editor from readers reacting to three stories published March 26 will make the April 2 issue a real keeper!

It seems our state legislators' batting averages graphic, published in conjunction with the story ['Hit-or-miss season in Richmond'] was a hit with some readers and a strikeout with others. It's only fitting, I guess, since the Major League baseball season officially opens Sunday night in D.C.. Remember, in baseball 3 out of 10 is a pretty good batting average.

Another letter writer objected strongly to the Page A1 photo of 19-year-old Steve Jefferson not wearing a helmet while skateboarding. Yet another reader took major offense with Supervisor Burton's comments about the county's public schools possibly trimming teachers' salaries, since, and I quote, "many teachers are married and they're getting double salaries."

Oh, well. That's just life in the big city.

We receive between 25 to 30 letters to the editor each week, and unfortunately do not have space to publish many. However, we appreciate readers' input, but frown on personal attacks.

Be sure to check out next week's Times-Mirror editorial page. Believe me, it's a hit. Go Nationals!

Paul,

The state legislators' batting averages graphic, published in conjunction with the story "Hit-or-miss season in Richmond" did catch my attention as soon as I picked the paper up off of my driveway. I thought the graphic was an interesting approach to measuring results down state but the relevance of these numbers may be left up to the reader's interpretation.
