First Night a rousing success

On Dec. 31, the Times-Mirror opened its East Market Street doors and participated as one of the venues of First Night Leesburg.

Upon entering Site No. 5, folks were treated with tours of our building, accompanied by an explanation of what it takes to put out a newspaper. Finger food, hot cocoa and coffee, and the musical talents of guitarist Kevin Knight also greeted visitors.

We received many compliments about our broad community outreach and how we approach stories that deal with issues that impact Loudoun residents.

Visitors seem to like our sports coverage, editorial page and overall mix of hard news and feature stories. Folks wanted more stories on schools, especially issues and concerns that affect fast-growing Loudoun. Our delivery needs to improve, according to some, but we welcome these and other critiques from the public.

Overall, it was good to be in touch with those who stopped. In five hours, we received about 150 visitors.

Again, thanks. And happy New Year! We hope to continue to be the community paper of choice, and we appreciate your support.
