Raiders rank No. 1

Congrats to the Loudoun County High School's Raiders, new Group AA state volleyball champions.

One of our photogs – AJ Maclean – literally came along for the ride. He was able to ride the bus back from Richmond, catching visually the flavor of an intense celebration.

The title was the first-ever state volleyball championship in the Leesburg school's history.

Our sports reporter, Nicole Buckholz, AJ and another staff photojournalist, Elizabeth Dodd, all caught celebration quotes and images in the lockerroom after Friday's victory.

Our Web site features AJ's photo gallery and Elizabeth's audio slideshow.

Anyone who says sports, especially the high school variety, is not news doesn't know what they've talking about.

The Times-Mirror published a big photo on our A section cover this week, in addition to two stories and several photographs on the sports section. We also listed all the team members for the Raiders. There was other news, but it was a no-brainer to give the team credit for a job well done.

Once again, hats off to the Raider girls – best in the state!
