Democrats take control
Now, the real work begins.
Congratulations to the winners of the Nov. 6 elections, condolences to the losers.
The Democrats took control of the Loudoun Board of Supervisors, as four Republican incumbents bit the dust.
The BOS scoreboard: 5 Dems, 2 independents, 2 Republicans.
Some of this year's local campaigns, in fact many, contained several harsh exchanges and accusations. In some instances, the exchanges got downright dirty.
It's time for a certain amount of decorum to set in, especially on the county's Board of Supervisors. We've had four years of bickering, and the time is right for a change.
We commend the three out of 10 voters to went to the polls. And we praise the dedication shown by the 60 candidates who ran in local and district-wide General Assembly races.
It's difficult to say, depending on one's point of view, who pulled off the biggest upset or surprise among the Dems on Election Day in the supervisors election.
Kelly Burk (Leesburg District) certainly impressed, and Stevens Miller recorded a decisive win over Stephen Snow in the Dulles District race. The same could be said for Susan Klimek Buckley (Sugarland Run) and Andrea McGimsey (Potomac). Democratic incumbent Sally Kurtz (Catoctin) turned back Geary Higgins for the second-straight election. Is Sally the next vice chair?
The hunch here is Scott York will get his power back as Board chairman. Expect him to restore decorum to the Board, something all citizens expect from their lawmakers.
