Beckstrom Provides Volunteer Services for GSA Homeless Charity

Construction Company’s generosity was instrumental in maintaining project cost and schedule.

"As it is written:  He who has scattered abroad his gifts to the poor; his righteousness endures forever" [2 Corinthians 9:8-9].

The Good Shepherd Alliance (GSA) celebrated the dedication of its new Center of Hope facility in Ashburn Tuesday, July 15, with a keynote speech by Delegate Tom Rust (R-86), along with speeches by the David Cogley, Board President of HomeAid, which oversaw the project and Bill Gilligan, Regional President of Toll Brothers, which lent its construction expertise to the many subcontractors and suppliers who worked on the project.

Beckstrom Electric of Purcellville and its’ employees volunteered their time and efforts by performing all the electrical work at the 7,000 square foot two story GSA Center of Hope facility in Ashburn Virginia. The GSA’s Center of Hope has been designated exclusively to help homeless and impoverished families and single people currently living in crisis.  GSA provides food, clothing, shelter and referrals to public and private agencies for assisting families, single women and single women with children in their greatest time of need.  This facility is used to house their administrative, family service staff, volunteers, thrift store “Hope’s treasurers” and the community outreach center.

In early 2008, Joy Trickett, GSA Board Chair contacted Beckstom Electric President Ken Beckstrom and asked for assistance in the renovation of this critical facility.  The Beckstrom/Farr and Trickett families grew up in Western Fairfax/Eastern Loudoun and have supported their community for decades.  Trickett stated “Ken Beckstrom was quick to respond and offered his companies total effort as an in-kind gift to help us achieve our goal.  I want to personally thank Ken, his family and staff for their generous support.”

Beckstrom arrived after the facility had been prepared for the initial rough-in work and completed their portion of rough-in during a one day all out blitz in early April.  As the interiors gradually became finished in June and July, Beckstrom employees returned numerous times to perform the finishing work connecting fixtures, HVAC units and receptacles.

Ken Beckstrom stated that “he was happy to be able to assist in such a huge community effort.  I was proud that so many of our employees also stepped up to the plate and contributed their personal time and efforts.  The Saturday rough-in blast off was very successful.  The bulk of all the project work was completed in one day. Thirty-five (35) skilled and highly trained Beckstrom employees arrived at 7 am and worked until late afternoon to support this effort.  That’s a lot of good people working together in one building.”

Beckstrom Electric coordinated the effort for several of their vendors to donate the materials for the job. Capital Lighting and Supply (CLS), CED Catalano, and Dulles Electric, all located in Sterling, contributed the majority of the electrical material and their generosity was instrumental in maintaining the project cost and schedule.

Beckstrom Electric regularly gets involved in significant charitable projects located in Northern Virginia.  The construction company has supported other projects and efforts such as building an entire new facility for Hopkins House School in conjunction with Associated Building Contractors Association (ABC), donating financial contributions to Loudoun Youth Inc. and many local youth sports teams.

Beckstrom Electric founded in 1989 by Ken and Debbie Beckstrom, both who were raised in Loudoun County, has evolved to become one of the most respected full service commercial and industrial electrical contractors in Northern Virginia and the Washington DC metropolitan region. Employing over 180 well-qualified people, Beckstrom Electric has a strong presence throughout the area providing service work and construction services in the commercial, medical, industrial, institutional and retail markets.
