Loudoun Awakening 2008

"The earth is the Lord's and everything in it, the world and all who live in it…” Psalm 24:1 [NIV]

Loudoun Awakening 2008 is an unprecedented opportunity for the Christians of Loudoun County and their churches and outreach ministries to unite together in a non-partisan expression of prayer and unity around the common denominators of the National Day of Prayer and the Global Day of Prayer. It may be the first time in Loudoun’s 250 year history that every Christian believer can find a place to express his or her faith during days and nights of prayer, a public reading of the Bible, and worship services of various styles representing the wide variety of Christian Church expression in the county.  These events will combine a Loudoun Christian Choir of volunteer singers, and a celebration of Christian unity to glorify God and extend His blessings to all citizens of Loudoun and beyond.

Spread over a three-week period beginning on April 26, 2008, a number of carefully planned and yet spontaneous events will dot Loudoun’s landscape with expressions of prayer, praise, and worship to Almighty God, drawing together as diverse a family of practical, day-to-day Christians as can be imagined, doing things together with no other motivation than to advance God’s kingdom and to experience a unified witness to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Imagine the impact and testimony when Christians as varied as Anglican, Baptist, Brethren, Episcopalian, Lutheran, Methodist, Pentecostal, Presbyterian, Roman Catholic, house-church, prayer fellowship, home group, —all step up to sing God’s praises, to read the entire Bible publicly, to engage in intercessory prayer, to join other Christians around the world in simultaneous prayer and praise to God for His blessings, provision, and protection.

We are living in both financially and socially difficult and challenging times.  It is by design that we are all resident here in Loudoun County at this specific period in history.  As Americans, we enjoy the freedom to pray openly and proclaim God's Word publicly.  Imagine praying together as His Word is read aloud in various locations about Loudoun County.  There is a plan in progress to pray that God would touch hearts, transform lives and produce a Church revival in our community.  We are calling it the Loudoun Awakening 2008.  We now have both the responsibility and the privilege to pray together and seek to make His Name great in this county, our nation, and around the world.

Northern Virginia churches have the greatest opportunity in many years to generate a powerful spiritual message to our local population.  To empower our communities, the Body of Christ must be willing to respond with its diverse gifts and talents by working in harmony. United in Christ as the Head, the Church in Loudoun County can transition out of our sanctuaries and into the streets to become more intimate with the working community. We must stand together and join hands and seek God earnestly with fervent prayer, fasting, worship, and with proclamation of His Word. This process will reach out and touch many of the un-churched and have significant impact in our county.

In conjunction with the National Day of Prayer and Global Day of Prayer observances, Loudoun Church Alliance and Loudoun’s Community Prayer Watch are facilitating a number of events that will assist all to corporately seek God's help and favor for our community, our state and our nation.  And while a diverse committee representing a number of county churches is working to coordinate the events, the “sponsorship” is far broader than one or two groups—indeed, Christian leaders across Loudoun County have been praying together for years to see such events come together to demonstrate the inherent unity in the larger Church and what can be accomplished in selfless service when no one cares who receives the credit.

The vision of the Loudoun Church Alliance is to establish and maintain an effective prayer, communication and relational network, which demonstrates the compassion of Jesus in practical ways and unites, serves and strengthens congregations across racial and denominational boundaries in Northern Virginia.
