Middle and high school students from around the globe will converge on the National Conference Center in Leesburg July 1-5 to participate in the eighth Annual Global Conference on Educational Robotics and to compete in the International Botball Tournament.

Botball is a team-oriented robotics competition that engages students’ learning of science, technology, engineering, and math educational principles.

The event is free and open to the public.

Botball challenges students to focus on computer programming, system design and sensing, as well as engineering in order to create two autonomous robots that work together to complete tasks.

Botball also requires written documentation of the project management and mechanical processes, as well as a verbal presentation to judges, which promotes communication skills.

In recent years, the game has focused on solving real-world problems. This year’s game focuses on “going green.”

The International Botball Tournament is free and open to the public. More than 6,000 students participate every year, and more than 40,000 have participated in the event's history.
