Loudoun Valley student still recovering
Jennifer Donaldson, a rising senior at Loudoun Valley High School, will not attend her first day of school this year.
Jenny is still in the hospital recovering from injuries sustained in a serious car accident June 22 that happened in Pennsylvania.
Doctors say Jenny is in a coma, although she is progressing and can now sit up, speak and perform simple tasks on her own.
Although she is now closer since being moved from a hospital in Pennsylvania to Inova Mount Vernon Hospital in Alexandria, Jenny is still likely weeks away from being able to come home to Round Hill.
Her family keeps friends and relatives updated using www.carepages.com.
On her latest entry on the site, Jenny's sister, Ashlie, said "doctors and therapists are amazed at the amount of progress she has made in this short amount of time. They are pretty optimistic."
She said Jenny can:
"sit up with minimum support, she can read, knows numbers and can do simple math, she is starting to be able to groom herself, she can feed herself a little bit, she can open her water bottle and take a drink, she can take her shirt off, she presses the buttons on the CD player and the elevator, she can talk, but she is working with the speech therapist on making her voice deeper and slower so we can understand her better and she remembers things (such as her facebook password, words to songs)."
Jenny was a gymnast and softball player at Lodoun Valley High School.
Collections for the Donaldson family are going on at APEX gym locations, where Jenny trained:
