'Hedda Gabler' opens tonight

   Henrik Ibsen's classic play, "Hedda Gabler," often characterized as the female "Hamlet," opens tonight for a four-weekend run at Industrial Strength Theatre in Herndon.

 And the nominees are ...

Members of five of our local theater companies have been nominated for the prestigious WATCH Awards. In all, the five companies received 49 nominations in the regional competition.

2nd Flight Productions, Elden Street Players, Providence Players, Reston Community Players and Vienna Theatre Company are all up for awards.

Elden Street Players' "Greater Tuna" and Vienna Theatre Company's "Taking Leave" are nominated for Outstanding Play. Reston Community Players' "Seussical" is up for Outstanding Musical.

Lisa-Marie Cabrelli is nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Musical for her role as Adelaide in "Guys and Dolls" (RCP). She's up against June Schreiner for her role as JoJo in "Seussical" (RCP), and Katie McManus and Jennifer Lambert as Violet and Daisy Hilton, respectively, in "Side Show" (ESP).

Shannon Khatcheressian is up for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Play for her role as Anna in "Boston Marriage" (ESP).

Rick Kenney is nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Play for his role as Eliot in "Taking Leave" (VTC).

Three directors also garnered nominations: Debbie Niezgoda for "Boston Marriage" (ESP), Haley Murphy for "Seussical" (RCP) and Lorraine Magee for "Taking Leave" (VTC).

Many, many other nominations went out for outstanding set design, choreography, props, costumes and more.

Auditions for play/workshop

Springfield Community Theatre announces auditions for the readers' theatre play, "Richard Cory" by A.R.Gurney, on Feb. 6, 8 and 9 at Immanuel United Methodist Church, 7901 Heritage Drive, Annandale, from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. This play/workshop is intended to help actors develop their acting skills.

Rehearsals are Feb. 11-15, 7-10 p.m. Performances are Feb. 16, 17, 18 and 19. For more information, call 703-978-8750.
