Tune up for the holiday with the Fairfax Symphony

Christmas is just a little more than a week away, and when it's past, so are your chances to marvel at these spirited performances.

Sunday afternoon the Fairfax Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of William Hudson, presents its annual holiday concert, Ho-Ho Holiday Pops!, at George Mason University's Center for the Arts. The repertoire features the theme from “The Polar Express,” “Sleigh Ride” and other favorites.

Singing several numbers with the symphony is The Reston Chorale (for a preview of its performance, visit www.fairfaxtimes.com/blogs/Backstage/2007-12-09/add-this-pair-wish-list/). The W.T. Woodson High School Select Vocal Ensemble also will perform six inspiring numbers. Get your tickets now at www.fairfaxsymphony.org so you don't miss this one-time opportunity to attend the area's largest holiday concert.

Meanwhile, the endearing play “The Velveteen Rabbit,” based on the beloved story by Margery Williams, opens tonight at the Industrial Strength Theatre in Herndon. Tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for ages 10 and under. Performances continue Saturday and Sunday and all next weekend. For showtimes and tickets, call 703-481-5930, ext. 3, or visit http://eldenstreetplayers.org.

Encore Theatrical Arts Project has six more performances of its dazzling “Rudy and the Candy Cane Stocking” -- one tonight, three tomorrow and two Sunday. For a review and ticket information, click on www.fairfaxtimes.com/blogs/Backstage/2007-12-09/add-this-pair-wish-list/.
